How to change your site title and tagline in WordPress

March 4, 2025• Giselle Clarke

Your site title and tagline are key elements of your brand’s identity, these elements ensure your website is easily recognisable to visitors.

The site title is your website’s name, while the tagline is a short description that gives visitors and search engines an idea of what your site is about. Having a title and tagline that align with your brand improves user recognition and SEO.

  1. Log in to Your WordPress Admin Panel
    • Start by accessing your WordPress Admin Panel. This is where you’ll manage and customise all aspects of your site.

  2. Access the Appearance Menu
    • From the dashboard, navigate to the Appearance menu on the left-hand side and click on Customise to open the website editor.

  3. Edit Site Identity
    • Select the Site Identity option and click to edit.

  4. Update the Site Title
    • Enter a new Site Title that reflects your brand name or purpose (e.g., “Blue Wave Rentals”). The site title typically appears in the browser tab, your site header (depending on your theme), and search engine results.

  5. Update the Tagline
    • Add a short, meaningful Tagline that describes your brand or site’s focus. The tagline can appear beneath your site title, in search engine snippets and in certain areas of your theme, depending on the design.

  6. Save Your Changes
    • Once you’ve updated the title and tagline, click Publish to save your changes.
