The 20 acre vineyard, established in 1997, on the historic Jeir Woolshed block is located approximately 25 kilometres from Canberra on the Barton Highway between Hall and Murrumbateman. Their super premium wines include Petit verdot, Shiraz, Sangiovese, a Cabernet blend comprising all five of the great grape varieties of Bordeaux, trophy winning Riesling, and Sauvignon blanc Semillon. Brindabella Hills - Brindabella Hills offers the most picturesque views of the Brindabella Mountain Ranges over the mighty Murrumbidgee River. The Brindabella Hills vineyard was established in 1986, initially as an experimental new area to assess the quality of premium varieties. The mountains of the Brindabella range to the west and hills to the south form a natural amphitheater and the vineyard maximizes the climatic advantages of a warm site in a cool district.  The vineyard shares climatic similarities to other Australian and European premium wine growing areas – the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, the Rioja in Spain and the hills of Tuscany south of Florence. All these areas have brilliant sunshine in abundance, and cool nights in the ripening season which contributes to intense berry flavours in the resulting wines. The last few years this winery has seen award winning wines and national “boutique winery” trophies for Chardonnay and Shiraz as well as trophies for Riesling, Cabernets, and Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon. Brindabella Hills wines boasts a 4½ star rating by James Halliday. Look for holiday rentals and places to stay in Murrumbateman at Search and Stay. ADDRESS - 156 Woodgrove Cl, Hall ACT 2618

The grapes come from vineyards dotted around the Canberra District and region and the cellar door is in the heart of Historic Collector just 40 minutes from Canberra or 2.5 hours from Sydney. A single vineyard winery, with the first plantings dating back to 1990. At one of the Canberra wine region’s highest elevations, the undulating hills give every vine the chance to breathe fresh air, and bask in the sun. These conditions akin to Continental Europe mean the wines take on an elegant, nuanced character. It’s a lovable contrast to what many expect from Australian wines. Along the way there have been trials and tribulations as well as moments of unprecedented success. The 50-year-old winery has taught us that Murrumbateman and Shiraz is one of those rare combinations in the world of wine that can produce something truly exciting. Clonakilla is a small, family business dedicated to producing distinctive, handcrafted Canberra region wines in limited quantities. Their wines have consistently earned critical acclaim, with Tim Kirk named Gourmet Traveller Wines' Winemaker of the Year in 2013. Relax surrounded by local stone, reclaimed timbers, deconstructed wine barrels and a large fireplace in the relatively new cellar door. Look up from the tasting bar through the vineyards to the renovated Clonakilla windmill at the top of the hill.
